KEY AREAS

WESTSIDE
Culver City Long a nondescript mix of offices and bungalows, it has become a hotbed of galleries, boutiques and small cafés.
Beverly Hills An enclave of the super wealthy, its attractions lie mainly in the shops around Rodeo Dr and Wilshire Blvd.
CENTRAL LA
West Hollywood An incorporated city bordered by Beverly Hills to the west and Hollywood to the east, it has a long tradition of non-conformity and is home to a large gay population. It’s a great place for shopping, eating and drinking.
Hollywood A mixture of glamour and ghetto, Hollywood encapsulates both the worst and the best of Los Angeles. There’s no denying the thrill of seeing in real life the settings of so many films and there’s nightlife galore.
EASTSIDE
Los Feliz Affluent and artsy, this is a pretty neighbourhood of older homes at the foot of Griffith Park, just east of Hollywood. Vermont Ave is sprinkled with sidewalk cafés and boutiques.
Echo Park Silver Lake’s edgier and more up-and-coming neighbour is still a bit gritty. Worth a stop on the way to Downtown.
Eagle Rock A pretty far-flung outpost of LA, yet within easy reach of Downtown, it has the distinct feel of a separate village. Some very good Filipino restaurants and some notable cafés.
DOWNTOWN
Downtown is the big story in LA right now. With amazing art deco architecture and a thriving arts scene, it is fast becoming a must-see. There are even plans afoot to create a cultural corridor in the area of the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
