KEY AREAS

MANHATTAN
Downtown, the Financial District, is covered in high-rise office buildings and bustles with the hum of industry. SoHo, once famous for its galleries and artists’ lofts, is now better known for shops and restaurants.
Chelsea is on of Manhattan’s liveliest areas. The Meatpacking District is full of restaurants, night spots and boutiques. Chelsea’s warehouses have been taken over by art galleries and mega-clubs.
West Village, also known as Greenwich Village, has historically been the epicentre of New York’s gay and artistic communities. Canal Street is home to the best selection of knock-off handbags, jeans or shoes a collector could hope to find.
East Village/Lower East Side has more music venues, bars, dance clubs and start-up fashion houses than anywhere else.
Midtown is Manhattan’s second business district and a media hot spot – and exemplifies the sheer energy of the city.
Madison Ave and 5th Ave are home to some of the most expensive retail outlets in the world, including all the major fashion houses.
BROOKLYN
Williamsburg is where the creative types moved to when the EV/LES ran out of room. Now it’s a thriving boho community. Park Slope, historically, was an escape for NYC’s bankers and deal makers. Their legacy includes the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn Museum and Prospect Park.
BRONX Once a byword for urban blight, the Bronx has made a comeback. The revamped Bronx Museum houses one of the city’s better exhibition spaces, while the Bronx Zoo and the exquisite New York Botanical Garden are as impressive as ever.
